A new prosecutor to investigate the acting Prosecutor General and their deputies will be selected on Friday, the Supreme Administrative Court (SAC) said.
The "ad hoc" prosecutor will be chosen at random through the Unified Information System of the Courts from among the judges included in the list approved by the General Assembly of the SAC’s Criminal College.
The term of office of a prosecutor tasked with investigating offences committed by the Prosecutor General may not exceed two years. After the term expires, the magistrate returns to their previous position.
The SAC has received a request from acting Prosecutor General Borislav Sarafov to attend the selection.
Judge Daniela Taleva of the Sofia City Court was the first magistrate chosen at random to investigate the Prosecutor General. The draw took place on July 7, 2023, among 22 judges approved under the new procedure adopted with the amendments to the Criminal Procedure Code and the Judiciary Act, in the presence of the media and SAC Deputy President Lada Paunova.
As of December 7 2025, Taleva no longer holds this position due to the expiry of her term.
