The European Parliament (EP) Liaison Office in Bulgaria, in partnership with the National Association of Municipalities in the Republic of Bulgaria (NAMRB), opened a discussion on “The Future of Cohesion Policy: European Plans and Bulgarian Priorities”. The forum was opened by Teodor Stoychev, Head of the EP Liaison Office in Bulgaria, who underlined the importance of the ongoing process of preparing EU’s new seven-year financial framework. “When we speak about regional policy, the role of local and regional authorities is extremely significant,” he noted.
The moderator of the event, Zinaida Zlatanova, pointed out that this is the first discussion organized by the EP Liaison Office in Bulgaria dedicated specifically to the Multiannual Financial Framework.
Participating in the forum are MEP Tsvetelina Penkova (S&D), Ivan Ivanov, Director of the Central Coordination Unit Directorate at the Council of Ministers, Ivaylo Stoyanov, head of the Strategic Planning and Programming Department at the Ministry of Regional Development and Public Works, Zornitsa Rusinova, Chair of the Economic and Social Council, and NAMBR Executive Director Silvia Georgieva.
The main aim of the event is to discuss proposals for the future of cohesion policy within the new EU Multiannual Financial Framework for 2028–2034, to present the positions of the EP and Bulgarian institutions, and to hear the perspectives of the various stakeholders involved.
A few days ago, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Innovation and Growth, Tomislav Donchev, presented Bulgaria’s position on the future of EU cohesion policy at a high-level conference in Bucharest. He took part in the forum "Cohesion 2027+: A Driver for Long-Term Development, Inclusive Economic Competitiveness, and Resilience Across Europe" at the invitation of Romanian Minister of Investments and European Projects Dragos Pislaru.
