Relations between Bulgaria and China have deep historical roots and are based on mutual respect, trust and long-standing friendship wrote GERB leader Boyko Borissov on Facebook on Monday. He added that Bulgaria was the second country in the world to diplomatically recognize the People's Republic of China in 1949. "Last year, we celebrated the 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations, which highlights the sustainability of our partnership", he said.
He continued his post by saying that an increasing number of young Chinese people are choosing Bulgaria for their education and to develop their businesses, just as Bulgarian students and professionals are finding opportunities in China. This bilateral exchange forms the basis for even stronger ties in the future.
At a meeting with Chinese National People’s Congress Standing Committee Vice Chair Xiao Jie, and the delegation he led, Borissov stressed that Bulgaria would continue to enhance cooperation with the National People's Congress, a significant player in China's political system and the supreme legislative body. He noted that China is a leading factor in international politics, boasting the second largest economy in the world after the United States and a permanent member of the UN Security Council.
Deputy Prime Minister and BSP leader Atanas Zafirov and National Assembly Chair Raya Nazarian also met with Xiao Jie on Saturday. The Chinese delegation is visiting Bulgaria at the invitation of the National Assembly.
