Bulgarian President Iliana Iotova discussed boosting bilateral cooperation in tourism with Andorran Prime Minister Xavier Espot Zamora, the President's press secretariat said.
The two spoke on the sidelines of the general political debate during the 81st session of the UN General Assembly, where the Bulgarian delegation is headed by the President.
Iotova said Bulgaria has excellent conditions for winter sports and experience as a successful host of European and international competitions. "We are also proud of the strong results achieved by Bulgarian athletes. We would be happy to learn from Andorra's experience in this area and establish direct contacts between ski resorts in Bulgaria and Andorra," she added. She proposed promoting tourism opportunities in the two countries through joint initiatives.
Prime Minister Espot Zamora said Andorra receives more than 10 million tourists a year and is ready to share its experience in developing tourism with Bulgaria.
The two also discussed the war in Ukraine and its serious consequences for Europe as a whole, as well as the conflict in the Middle East and the resulting surge in fuel prices.
Iotova reiterated that the conflict in Ukraine has no military solution and called for peace talks, stressing that the EU should be involved in the process, as it is currently absent. For Bulgaria, the security of the Black Sea and freedom of navigation are of particular importance, as the region is a major food supply route, especially to Africa, she said.
