Romania is experiencing its hottest period of 2025. The peak will be on Friday and Saturday, when temperatures are expected to reach 42-43 degrees Celsius in the shade, according to the National Meteorological Administration of Romania.

The last days of July will be the hottest in the southern part of the country. Code red heat alert has been issued for 15 counties and Bucharest, where 34 C were measured at 11 a.m. local time.

The temperature-humidity index is expected to exceed the critical threshold of 80 units, and the night will see tropical temperatures of 20 C - 22 C. More than 4,000 residents of Bucharest have needed emergency help in the past 72 hours due to the scorching heat and many people fainted because of the hot weather, PRO TV reported.

The heatwave will be followed by severe storms, according to local meteorologists. They have already issued a code yellow alert for Transylvania and Moldova, where heavy rains, lightning, and wind gusts of 70 km/h are expected Friday. Hailstorms are also possible.

In Bucharest, cooler weather is expected on Tuesday.
