Five wildfires were active in the Republic of North Macedonia, North Macedonia’s Crisis Management Centre said on Monday.

Low brushwood has been burning for a week in the village of Nikolic in Dojran Municipality, and a similar fire persists in Gornjani, Chucher-Sandevo Municipality. Active blazes have also been reported in Veles Municipality, Makedonski Brod Municipality, where oak woodland, shrubs and undergrowth are affected, and in Prilep Municipality.

Two people were injured in a fire that broke out late on Sunday and spread to three houses in the settlement of Zlokukjani, Karposh Municipality, Skopje, the Skopje Fire Brigade confirmed to 360 Degrees. According to the brigade’s commander Zvonko Tomevski, the fire was extinguished in the early morning hours with ten fire engines and a large contingent of firefighters deployed. Tomevski said the roofs of the three adjoining houses were damaged and there was a danger that the flames could spread to other nearby buildings.

One person, most likely a local resident, suffered burns and was taken to hospital, while another citizen later sought medical help for smoke inhalation.
