At 10 PM local time on Wednesday, Bulgarian police at the Lesovo border crossing found two Thai women hiding under a pile of bags, pillows and blankets in the back of a Volvo car driven by a 60-year-old Danish man entering Bulgaria from Turkiye, the Border Police said on Thursday. The enforcers found Thai passports showing that the women were 30 and 42 years old, respectively.

They had no Bulgarian entry visas. They face fast-track legal proceedings over attempting to enter Bulgaria unlawfully. Pretrial proceedings were opened against the driver for trafficking in human beings. The three suspects are in remand in Elhovo, close to Bulgaria’s border with Turkiye.
