Romanian Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Andrei Tarnea said that there's "hallmarks of Russian interference" during Romania's ongoing presidential elections. In a post on X on Sunday, he wrote that a viral campaign of fake news on Telegram and other social media platforms is aimed to influence the electoral process.

“This was expected and Romanian authorities debunked the fake news “, he added.

The presidential elections in Romania are being held for the second time after last December the Constitutional Court annulled the first round held in November and ordered the electoral process to start again. The annulment of the elections has plunged the country into its worst political crisis in decades, observers note.
