To mark the 80th anniversary of the victory over fascism in World War II, a march of the Immortal Regiment took place in the Serbian capital, Belgrade, reported the Tanjug news agency.
Participants in the march set off from the Memorial Cemetery of the Liberators of Belgrade and proceeded to Republic Square, where a celebratory music and stage programme was organized featuring artists from Serbia and Russia.
Four ministers from Djuro Macut’s government and the Russian Ambassador to Serbia, Alexander Botsan-Kharchenko, took part in the Immortal Regiment march.
The Immortal Regiment march is a Russian initiative to honour those who fought in World War II on the Eastern Front in Europe.
Earlier, as part of the Victory Day commemorations, Serbian Parliament Speaker Ana Brnabic and other officials laid wreaths at the Memorial Complex, at the Eternal Flame monument, and at the Red Army monument in the Serbian capital.
Wreaths were also laid by representatives of the Belgrade municipality and by local citizens.
