Former Romanian President Klaus Iohannis voted at a polling station in Sibiu, where he was mayor for three consecutive terms. He went to exercise his right to vote together with his wife Carmen.

Iohannis stressed the importance of the elections being held transparently, without influences from outside Romania. “I hope the day will be a good one for Romania," he said.

His predecessor in office Traian Basescu also voted together with his wife Maria. He said that Romania can no longer continue with the current political class.

The presidential elections in the country are being rerun after the Constitutional Court annulled the first round held on November 24 due to suspicions of foreign interference and ordered the entire process to start over. The Constitutional Court extended the term of then-President Klaus Iohannis until a new head of state was elected, but he subsequently resigned and Senate President Ilie Bolojan took over temporarily.
