site.btaBulgaria Fulfilled All Commitments under Rudozem–Xanthi Border Checkpoint Project, Says Regional Development Minister
Bulgaria has fulfilled all its commitments under the project for the new Rudozem–Xanthi border-crossing checkpoint between Bulgaria and Greece, and the facility has been issued an operating permit for both the checkpoint and the access road as of December 13, 2023, Regional Development and Public Works Minister Ivan Ivanov said. He was answering a question from Vazrazhdane MP Angel Georgiev regarding a specific date for the opening of the Rudozem–Xanthi border crossing.
On the Greek side, the construction of the road section was delayed due to force majeure circumstances, and after several extensions of the deadlines, the work was completed with funding from the national budget of Greece, the Minister added.
Ivanov pointed out that the organization, operation, and management of border crossings fall outside the powers of the Ministry and the Road Infrastructure Agency. The issue of opening the border crossing and commissioning the road sections on Greek territory is beyond the competence of his Ministry and should be addressed to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, he said.
