Around 8 am on April 30, customs officers at Danube Bridge 2 (Vidin-Calafat), stopped for inspection  a refrigerated truck, travelling from Belgium to Turkiye, the Appellate Sofia Prosecutor’s Office said on Friday.

The vehicle was selected for a thorough customs inspection.

During the check, 10 vacuum packets containing a white powdery compressed substance were found in the truck. The substance tested for cocaine in a field drug test. Its total weight was 11.36 kg.

The value of the seized drug is estimated at about BGN 3,000, 000.

The driver of the truck, a 47-year-old Turkish citizen, was charged with smuggling a high-risk narcotic substance across the country's border. He has been detained for up to 72 hours by a prosecutor's order.

The court is yet to rule on the request submitted by the District Prosecutor's Office in Vidin for indefinite remand in custody.
