Friday is the last day of the election campaign in Romania and the first day of voting by the diaspora in the first round of the presidential elections. The first of 965 overseas polling stations opened in Auckland, New Zealand, at 7 am local time (10 pm on Thursday Romanian time), according to the Romanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Italy and Malta have the highest number of polling stations, 161 and so far 2,380 people have voted there.

Some 16,000 Romanians abroad have already exercised their right to vote: 4,106 by post and 12,500 in person.

There is one polling station in Bulgaria. It is in the building of the Embassy of Romania in Sofia.

Compared to the presidential and parliamentary elections in 2024, for this year's elections 29 polling stations were moved to facilitate Romanians' access to the polling stations, the Romanian Foreign Ministry also said.

Voters abroad have three days to cast their ballot, while in Romania the presidential vote is on May 4. The Constitutional Court annulled the first round of presidential elections held on November 24, 2024 because of suspicions of foreign interference and ordered the whole process to start again.
