Four unmanned aerial systems have been delivered to support the Haskovo Regional Directorate of the Interior Ministry in combating illegal migration, the directorate’s press office said on Monday.
The drones are equipped with high-tech cameras, thermal imaging, a laser rangefinder, a remote control with an integrated display, a spotlight and a loudspeaker. The systems will assist officers in monitoring hard-to-reach areas, tracking routes, identifying groups of people and coordinating police operations related to illegal migration.
The equipment was provided under a cross-border Bulgaria–Türkiye project funded by the Interreg programme. Officers from the Haskovo directorate have also received training in operating the drones and using their camera and thermal imaging systems.
The directorate also received five off-road vehicles with specialized equipment under the same Interreg Bulgaria–Türkiye programme in 2026.
