site.btaBulgaria, Montenegro Discuss Strengthening Bilateral Relations

Deputy Foreign Minister Ivanka Tasheva and Montenegro's Ambassador to Bulgaria Dorde Jankovic discussed further strengthening bilateral relations during a meeting at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Sofia, the ministry said on Friday.

The talks focused on Montenegro's progress towards European Union membership. Tasheva reaffirmed Bulgaria's consistent support for Montenegro's EU accession path and its readiness to continue sharing expertise in support of the country's accession process. She said Montenegro's progress demonstrated the importance of political commitment and the consistent fulfilment of EU membership criteria.

The two sides expressed satisfaction with the excellent state of bilateral relations and confirmed that there were no outstanding issues between the two countries.

They also discussed plans to launch a direct air service between Sofia and Podgorica, which is expected to boost trade, tourism and contacts between the two countries. 

Tasheva said the strong political dialogue between Bulgaria and Montenegro created favourable conditions for expanding economic ties. She also congratulated Ambassador Jankovic ahead of Montenegro's Statehood Day on July 13.

Jankovic thanked Bulgaria for its continued support for Montenegro's path towards EU membership.

In September 2025, Bulgaria and Montenegro agreed to establish a working group to prepare the launch of a direct air link between Sofia and Podgorica.
