- World No Tobacco Day.
On this date in Bulgarian history:
1902: Russo-Bulgarian Military Convention signed in St. Petersburg to provide mutual military aid in case Bulgaria or Russia is attacked by Austria-Hungary, Romania or Triple Alliance member. Convention is never put to practice and becomes obsolete in 1903.
1989: First private theatre in Bulgaria is set up, Dialogue Theatre.
2004: Kozloduy N-plant EAD company concludes contract with Germany's RWE NUKEM GmbH for construction of new storage facility for used nuclear fuel at Kozloduy N-plant's site.
2006: First public register of Bulgarian companies is presented before journalists at Bulgarian Chamber of Commerce and Industry.

On this date in Bulgarian history:
1948: Diplomatic relations with Poland, established December 30, 1918 at legation level, are promoted to embassy level.
1956: Diplomatic relations are established with the Sudan at legation level.
1964: Diplomatic relations with Japan, established in 1919 at legation level, are promoted to embassy level.
2000: First private TV channel with nationwide coverage, bTV, goes on the air.
2006: Act to Amend and Supplement the Defence and Armed Forces of the Republic of Bulgaria Act, abolishing conscription effective January 1, 2008, enters into force.
2007: Bulgarian citizens' representation starts functioning in Brussels.
2012: Ban on smoking in enclosed public spaces enters into effect.
