Seventeen illegal migrants were detained while entering Bulgaria through the Lesovo border control checkpoint on the night of Tuesday to Wednesday, the Interior Ministry said in a press release.

Two women and fifteen men without identity documents, who said they were from Iraq, were found in the cargo compartment of a truck with a trailer. The driver of the vehicle, a Turkish national, was detained for assisting foreign citizens to cross into Bulgaria illegally by using a motor vehicle. The seventeen undocumented individuals were also detained for entering the country unlawfully through the Bulgarian-Turkish border, the Ministry said.

On Tuesday, the Border Police General Directorate reported the detention of ten illegal migrants on the Samokov–Sofia road.
