Turkish authorities refused to let an Israeli ship, operated by the company ZIM, dock at the the port of Istanbul, forcing it to reroute to the port of Piraeus in Greece, the online outlet Turkiye Today reported, citing information confirmed by the authorities.
The move is part of Turkiye’s new restrictive policy against Israel due to the war in Gaza. Since August 21, 2025, Ankara has imposed a ban on Israeli ships entering Turkish ports. The restriction applies both to vessels sailing under the Israeli flag and to those owned by Israelis. Likewise, Turkish ships are also prohibited from docking at Israeli ports.
Alongside the ban, a new requirement was introduced obliging all ships entering Turkish ports to provide written confirmation that they have no connection to Israel.
Shipowners must also provide information that their cargo will not be delivered to Israel for military or other purposes.
