At the start of the week, a delegation from the Bulgarian political party Vazrazhdane, consisting of MP Kliment Shopov and MEPs Stanislav Stoyanov and Rada Laykova, returned from a visit to the United States. The delegation had been invited by the Republican Party to attend its recently held youth forum in Tampa, Florida, Vazrazhdane’s press center announced on Thursday.
The forum, which featured the participation of the three Vazrazhdane representatives, brought together prominent figures from the conservative sphere, including journalists, activists, entrepreneurs, and politicians. Notable attendees included Donald Trump Jr., Steve Bannon, Tucker Carlson, Charlie Kirk, Roger Stone, as well as U.S. Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth and Secretary of the Interior Kristi Noem.
Following the event, the delegation held meetings in Washington, Boston, and Baltimore. They also met with Professor Steve Hanke – the economist behind Bulgaria’s currency board, as well as similar systems in other countries. The meeting took place in his office at Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, the party said in its statement.
During all their meetings, the Vazrazhdane representatives advocated for pegging the Bulgarian lev to the U.S. dollar instead of adopting the euro. They presented this as a last resort to preserve Bulgaria’s financial independence. "Time is short until the end of the year, but Vazrazhdane will fight to preserve the lev until the very end, using all means available," the statement concluded.
