Blagoevgrad Mayor Metodi Baykushev from Continue the Change spoke to journalists before the National Council of the party, commenting on recent controversies related to Varna Mayor Blagomir Kotsev: “When there is no justice, the whole nation suffers”.
On Friday, Sofia City Court has ordered that Varna Mayor Blagomir Kotsev, municipal councillors Yordan Kateliev and Nikolay Stefanov and businessman Ivaylo Marinov be remanded in custody, amid protests in support of Kotsev.
“We are not afraid, we will fight with legal means, we are gathering the legal team that will take the appropriate actions, we will not leave things like this,” Baykushev said.
Baykushev argued that the court’s decision is unconstitutional, as the jurisdiction of a court on the basis of a hypothetical charge, and against an MP who has not been granted immunity cannot be justified. In his words, He went on to say that the prosecution should investigate who released false recordings to the media, who made these recordings, who is carrying out political pressure, who is pressuring witnesses to perjure themselves.
“It is obvious that the target in this case is the Continue the Change political party and Asen Vassilev, as attempts are constantly being made for someone to bear false witness against him and other members of our party,” Baykushev said, noting that the evidence so far is unconvincing.
