Economy and Industry Minister Petar Dilov met with Kuwaiti Ambassador Ghazi Hamed Alfadhli to discuss aspects of trade and economic relations and ways to step them up, Dilov's Ministry said on Friday.
Dilov said: "Attracting Kuwaiti investment in the Bulgarian economy is among the priorities in bilateral relations. Kuwait is a strategic partner in the Gulf Region, and there is real potential to deepen economic cooperation."
Dilov added that Bulgaria offers competitive conditions for investment. As of July 11, the country's long-term credit rating has been upgraded by the agencies S&P and Fitch, following the approval on July 8 for Bulgaria to join the Eurozone. "We expect another upgrade as of January 1, 2026," he said.
In his words, there are excellent opportunities for implementing joint projects in high value-added sectors. "Bulgaria can be a reliable partner for Kuwaiti businesses in building production facilities and research units," the Economy Minister said.
For his part, Ambassador Alfadhli said Kuwait views Bulgaria as a reliable and important partner in Europe, and that it serves as a strategic gateway to the European market.
Dilov proposed that the Joint Intergovernmental Commission for Economic Cooperation, which last convened in 2006, should resume its activity.
The two also discussed organizing joint business forums and delegations to step up and deepen ties between their countries' business communities. In this context, it was announced during the meeting that a delegation of Bulgarian companies is preparing to visit Kuwait this autumn, where they will have the opportunity to establish new trade partnerships.
