A maximum temperature of 40.5 degrees Celsius in the shade was measured in Ruse on Monday, the hydrometeorological station in the Danube city told BTA.
This marked the hottest July 7 in the history of Ruse, as the hottest temperature so far was 40C, measured in 1988. The coldest temperature on that date was 13.5C in 1984.
Ruse Emergency Department Director Dr. Ivanka Marinova told BTA that since the morning medical teams have responded to a dozen reports of Ruse residents feeling unwell from the heat.
Ruse Deputy Mayor Nikola Lazarov emphasized that because of the heat, machines are spraying water on squares, the central pedestrian street, as well as the major boulevards in the city.
