In May 2025, turnover in the sector "Retail trade, excluding motor vehicles and motorcycles" increased by 7.2% in real terms compared to May 2024, the National Statistical Institute (NSI) reported on Monday, noting that the data are preliminary and seasonally adjusted.
Compared to April 2025, turnover rose by 2%, according to calendar-adjusted data.
In May 2025, an increase in turnover was recorded in "Retail trade of non-food products, excluding fuels and lubricants," up by 2.7%, while "Retail trade of automotive fuels and lubricants" saw a decline of 2.9%. Turnover in "Retail trade of food, beverages and tobacco" remained at the same level as the previous month, the NSI added.
Within the sector "Retail trade of non-food products, excluding fuels and lubricants," more significant growth was observed in:
· "Retail trade of various goods" – up by 3.1%,
· "Retail trade of textiles, clothing, footwear and leather goods" – up by 2.9%,
· "Retail trade of household appliances, furniture and other household goods" – up by 2.8%.
A decrease was recorded in "Retail trade of computer and communication equipment" – down by 0.2%, according to the NSI.
In May 2025, compared to the same month in 2024, turnover growth was reported in:
· "Retail trade of non-food products, excluding fuels and lubricants" – up by 12.3%,
· "Retail trade of automotive fuels and lubricants" – up by 8.8%
Turnover in "Retail trade of food, beverages and tobacco" remained at the same level as in May 2024.
In the "Retail trade of non-food products, excluding fuels and lubricants" group, growth was observed across all sub-groups, with the most notable increases in:
· "Retail trade of household appliances, furniture and other household goods" and
· "Retail trade of textiles, clothing, footwear and leather goods" – both up by 17%,
· "Retail trade of various goods" – up by 15.6%, and
"Retail trade of computer and communication equipment" – up by 13.3%, the statement added.
