The opposition is drawing high salaries while doing nothing useful for the public, GERB-UDF Deputy Chair Denitsa Sacheva told Parliament on Friday, commenting on the third motion of no confidence against the Zhelyazkov Cabinet. She described the initiative as a pointless exercise that squandered citizens' time.

Earlier on Friday, the motion failed for a third time, attracting the support of 54 MPs while 130 voted against.

Sacheva said this was yet another "doomed no-confidence vote, submitted by the opposition with full awareness that it would not pass, simply to waste the National Assembly’s time." She added that it is really the time of Bulgarian citizens that is being wasted.

The government is formed by GERB-UDF, BSP–United Left and There Is Such a People (TISP), Sacheva noted. “The Cabinet can be brought down only if the opposition secures 121 votes, which it does not have,” she said.

Sacheva added that it was even more telling that Continue the Change-Democratic Bulgaria (CC-DB) had declared it would not back the motion because of the eurozone but then failed to appear in the chamber. “When and how do CC-DB show us they stand on principle?” she asked.

She explained that GERB leader Boyko Borissov missed the vote because he was holding meetings at party headquarters with MPs and European partners. “The focus remains on the eurozone, the Recovery and Resilience Plan and real, substantive work, not on no-confidence votes,” she said.
