Hawaii-based ceramic artist Shawn Spangler will open an exhibition in Sofia's Arosita Gallery on July 3. Entitled "Niche Forms", the exhibition will be on until July 25.

Spangler describes his art as part of the long artistic tradition that leaves its imprint in clay, a human imprint bearing the spirit of the time, the organizers said. In the artist's words, his work engages him in a dialogue with historical objects from different eras, focusing on artistic technologies and the interpretation of art objects. "Ceramic works can serve as historical landmarks from which we can learn and build upon artifacts through which culture, its traditions and social practices can be measured," the artist noted.

Shawn Spangler was born in Pennsylvania, USA. He currently lives and works in Hawaii. He draws inspiration for his work from historical artifacts, design, and technology. His projects raise questions about authorship and co-creation while highlighting both the connections and boundaries between digital and analog processes. His porcelain forms, made on a potter's wheel, can be complex yet clearly articulated, often created through a combination of several parts.

Spangler holds a Bachelor's degree in fine arts from Pennsylvania State University (2001) and a Master's degree in fine arts from Alfred University (2006). He has exhibited internationally and has taught workshops at numerous art centers, colleges, and universities throughout the United States. Spangler is an Associate Professor at the University of Hawaii at Manoa.
