Courses for English speakers in Bulgarian language and cuisine are among the activities organized by the Bulgarian Cultural Institute (BCI) London, Director Svetla Dionisieva told BTA on Thursday. She said the Bulgarian language course for English speakers is offered at three levels, and BCI issues certificates.
The course is attended by people who like Bulgaria, are curious and want to pick up a bit of the language. For the same reasons, foreigners also attend the Bulgarian cooking course, which takes place in a fully equipped kitchen at BCI London. These activities are free of charge for the participants.
There is also an information room about Bulgaria, which, according to Dionisieva, is very popular among English-speaking visitors.
Visitors can view paintings from the BCI collection which have been featured in past exhibitions, and the artworks are available for purchase.
BCI London also has a library, which the director says is the largest among the libraries in Bulgarian cultural institutes worldwide.
The gallery at the Bulgarian Cultural Institute hosts film screenings, film festivals, solo shows, puppet theatre performances, as well as exhibitions and concerts. Dionisieva said that BCI London will organize a major film festival in September.
On June 19, BCI London Director Svetla Dionisieva and collaborators Miglena Rogacheva, Diana Spasova and Yoana Peeva organized a thematic event dedicated to the 60th anniversary of the publication of the first issue of BTA's LIK magazine for literature, art and culture and the 90th anniversary of the founding of the Bulgarian National Radio.
