The General Directorate for Combating Organized Crime reported a record increase in drugs confiscated in the first five months of 2025, with the quantities being three times more compared to the whole of 2024, said Interior Minister Daniel Mitov on Facebook. The results show an increase of 168% in cocaine, 346% in marijuana, 123.4% in cannabis, 884% in precursors, 449% in methamphetamine and 72.7% in amphetamine, he added.

Mitov explained that specialized police operations also increased, 36 so far, compared to 26 for the same period last year. "Since the beginning of 2025, the General Directorate for Combating Organized Crime has already neutralized 12 organized crime groups,  twice as many as in the same period in 2024," the Minister noted.

The investigations also show the worrying tendency of children and young people being involved in drug distribution, pointed Mitov. Therefore, the Ministry of Interior and law enforcement agencies called on everyone, parents and society, to be vigilant and monitor the behavior of their children.

Daniel Mitov also pointed out that the Ministry of Interior and the Zhelyazkov Cabinet have declared an uncompromising war on drug trafficking and production, on the distribution of cannabis vapes and laughing gas. The General Directorate of the National Police, the General Directorate for Combating Organized Crime and the regional directorates of the Ministry of Interior worked in full synchronicity, like a well-oiled machine, and the results of this fight against drugs are truly impressive, said the Minister of Interior in his post.
