- Time of Remembrance and Reconciliation for Those Who Lost Their Lives during the Second World War, marked on May 8 and 9, by resolution 59/26 of 22 November 2004 of the UN General Assembly;

- International day of the Red Cross and the Red Crescent;

On this date in Bulgarian history:

1910: Diplomatic relations are established with Spain at legation level.

1984: Mountaineers Ivan Vulchev, Metodi Savov, Kiril Doskov and Nikolai Petkov climb Mount Everest (8,848 m).

1990: Bulgaria and European Community sign agreement on trade and economic cooperation.

2003: National Electricity Company joins Union for the Coordination of the Transmission of Electricity (UCTE).
