Vice President Iliana Iotova was Wednesday a guest of honour at the official opening of the 19th International Podgorica Book and Education Fair.

“For us, this is a recognition of Bulgaria's contribution to the world and European cultural treasury,” she said.

Earlier, Iotova attended an official ceremony to open a street named after Ivan Vazov in Montenegro's historic capital Cetinje.

The Vice President expressed hope that Montenegro will join the European Union and said that the country can count on Bulgaria's support. Iotova pointed out that in 2025 Bulgaria has two important anniversaries related to literature and the written word - the creation of the Glagolitic alphabet and the adoption of Orthodoxy as an official religion.

“Thus, a spiritual empire was born - literacy, writing, literature and culture, which spread throughout the Slavic world... This common memory can only unite us," the Vice President said.

Iotova also met with the mayor of Podgorica, Prof. Sasa Mujovic.

She is expected to attend the opening of the Bulgarian stand at the 19th International Podgorica Book and Education Fair later. The stand will be opened by Culture Minister Marian Bachev, and the Vice President will open the exhibition “Alphabet and History”.
