site.btaVice President Iotova to Open Alphabet and History Exhibition in Shumen

Vice President Iliana Iotova will open the exhibition "Alphabet and History" at the Stiliyan Chilingirov Regional Library in Shumen, the presidential press secretariat said on Saturday. The exposition with author prof. Vasya Velinova is a joint project of the State Cultural Institute at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ivan Duychev Centre for Slavic-Byzantine Studies at Sofia University and the Elena and Ivan Duychev Foundation. The exhibition was presented at the beginning of April at the National Library. It marked the beginning of the celebrations for the 1170th anniversary of the Glagolitic alphabet.

At 10 am Iotova will attend a prayer service officiated by Patriarch Daniil. Later, in the Aula of Shumen University Iotova will open a scientific session dedicated to the 1160th anniversary of the Christianisation and the 1170th anniversary of the Glagolitic alphabet.

On Friday, Iotova participated in the celebrations in Pliska of the two commemorative anniversaries. The celebration of the anniversary of the Glagolitic alphabet is under the patronage of Iliana Iotova and will continue throughout 2025.
