A deviation in one of the systems of Bulgaria’s first F-16 fighter jet was detected after landing, but this does not mean that the aircraft is broken, said Air Force Commander Major General Nikolay Rusev Wednesday at a briefing on the F-16 Block 70.

The procedure of accepting the aircraft is underway. It is divided into two parts - technical and aerial acceptance, he said, clarifying that the procedure is lengthy and the aircraft has not been accepted. The aircraft will be accepted when both the procedures are completed, he added.

After the technical procedure, a minimum of two flights involving a Bulgarian pilot will be performed. Once the plane lands and has completed these two flights, and the pilot declares that the plane is airworthy, then the plane is accepted and it enters into service with the Bulgarian Air Force, Rusev further explained.

The first Bulgarian F-16 Block 70 fighter jet was officially welcomed on March 13 during a ceremony at the Graf Ignatievo air base.
