The Municipal Enterprise for Tourism under the Sofia Municipality organised the opening of the new Tram 83 Tourist Information Centre, the municipality's press center said. The event will take place on Monday at 11 am at Central Baths (Banski) Square, opposite the Central Sofia Market Hall.

The event programme will feature the Representative Military Brass Band of the Land Forces - Bulgaria, conducted by Major Todor Penkov.

Tram 83 was placed at the Central Baths Square at the end of October 2024 as a tourist attraction and tourist information centre. It was restored in 2015 at the initiative of the Public Transport & Infrastructure Association, with the financial support of Siemens-Bulgaria.

Tram 83 is a symbol of the capital's urban transport. For over 36 years, MAN-Siemens trams have been part of the daily life of Sofia residents. Tram 83, as well as tram 92, continued to operate as service trains until the mid-1980s. In 1999, tram 92 was restored and became the first attraction tram in Sofia,  Sofia Municipality recalled.

As part of the event, the Municipal Enterprise for Tourism is also organizing a free tour with retro tram 92, which will run three courses, from 12:00 pm, 1:00 pm and 2:00 pm. The route will include major landmarks in Sofia, such as Vazrazhdane Square, the Courthouse and the Central Sofia Market Hall. Each passenger will receive an authentic 1930s-style ticket, and a conductor will punch the tickets with the date of the trip.

The new Tram 83 Tourist Information Centre will combine the living history and cultural wealth of Sofia and will provide a unique tourist experience for guests and residents of the capital, the Sofia Municipality noted.
