The Vazrazhdane party presented its list of candidates for MEPs at the BTA press club in Sofia on Tuesday. Topping the list of 13 candidates is MP Stanislav Stoyanov, followed by journalist Petar Volgin.
Stoyanov said that the ambition of the party's candidates is to change the understanding that going to the European Parliament are people taking good salaries and doing nothing. "We are going there to work but not for Bulgaria leaving the EU," he specified. "Our goal is to make the EU better and more beneficial for Bulgaria," he added.
Volgin said that according to him, when a person work in journalism, his main task should be to inform the population as well as broaden the freedom. "I have always looked at journalism as a way for me to make people believe that they can have greater freedom. For some time now, we have been living in a period of ever growing censorship," he said. In his words, that applies not only to Bulgaria but also to the whole EU. "Everything I am doing is to fight with the power holders' wish to impose a totalitarian way of life. This fight using journalism's means is not enough. If we do not take real actions using the means of politics, this fight is doomed," Volgin said, explaining his decision to accept his nomination for MEP candidate of Vazrazhdane.
Vazrazhdane leader Kostadin Kostadinov said that his party's goal is to create its own political group in the European Parliament. "We have an invitation from Identity and Democracy [political group] for Juen 10. We have told them that we will think about it, because we have another priority," he noted.
