Monday is the deadline for citizens of the Republic of North Macedonia to leave the country with unchanged identity documents, because as of midnight the documents with the name Republic of Macedonia are no longer valid.

The Interior Ministry of North Macedonia has recalled on its website that legal changes have been adopted in connection with the Prespa Agreement with Greece, according to which within five years passports, driving licenses, car registration plates and identity cards must be replaced with those that bear the new name of the state of the Republic of North Macedonia.

The Interior Ministry warns citizens who have the old travel documents not to try to leave the country. Citizens who hold dual citizenship will be able to use the travel documents of the other country and that any citizen of the Republic of North Macedonia who arrives at the border crossing to enter the country will be admitted, regardless of the travel document they come with, the Interior Ministry said.

ID cards will continue to be valid on the territory of the country after February 13, regardless of whether they bear the name of the Republic of North Macedonia and citizens will be able to leave the country. However, the Ministry cannot guarantee that they will be accepted by the other countries. The Interior Ministry has warned against driving without a valid driving licence with the name of the Republic of North Macedonia".
For those who have not replaced the registration plates of their vehicles, free stickers with NMK are available at the MOT stations.
