The market index for wholesale food prices in Bulgaria increased by 0.62% to 2,280 points over the week, compared to 2,266 points in the fourth week of January, the State Commission for Commodity Exchanges and Wholesale Markets reported.

At the beginning of 2023, the food price index was 2.316 points, and around March 10 it reached its spring peak at 2.480 points. The base level of 1 point was set in 2005.

The price of tomatoes (import) went up by 10.2% to BGN 3.56 per kilogram and of cucumbers (import), by 7.5% to BGN 3.45 per kilogram. Potatoes appreciated by 4.1% to BGN 1.28 per kilogram.

The price of carrots rose by 0.9% to BGN 1.18 per kilogram and of ripe onions (import), by 1.4% to BGN 1.40 per kilogram. Cabbage appreciated by 3.2% to BGN 0.98 per kilogram and lettuce, by 5.4% to BGN 1.17 per item. Ripe imported garlic became cheaper by 2.0% and traded at BGN 5.33 per kilogram and red peppers (import), by 3.3% to BGN 3.47 per kilogram,

The price of apples (import) gained 1.7% to BGN 1.82 per kilogram. Lemons went appreciated by 4.4% to BGN 2.14 per kilogram. The price of bananas rose by 2.2% to BGN 2.85 per kilogram and of mandarins, by 2.2% to BGN 2.37 per kilogram. Oranges went down in price by 5.5% and traded at BGN 2.05 per kilogram.

The average wholesale price of white brined cheese from cow's milk decreased by 1.3% to BGN 10.99 per kilogram. The price of yellow kashkaval cheese of the Vitosha type went up by 0.2% to BGN 16.80 per kilogram. The price of yogurt (with fat content of 3% and over) gained 2.5% and sold at BGN 1.21 for 400g. Fresh milk (with fat content of 3%) depreciated by 0.9% to BGN 2.26 per litre.

The price of poultry meat increased by 0.5% to BGN 6.27 per kilogram. Eggs (size M) were sold at BGN 0.38 per piece wholesale, up by 2.6% from a week earlier.

The price of rice increased by 3.4% to BGN 3.34 per kilogram. Lentils appreciated by 0.7% and traded at BGN 4.25 per kilogram and ripe beans, by 0.5% to BGN 4.17 per kilogram.

The prices of sugar and sunflower oil remained unchanged, trading at BGN 2.21 per kilogram and BGN 2.63 per liter, respectively.

Flour (type 500) appreciated by 1.6% to BGN 1.24/kg. The price of butter from cow's milk went down by 2.23% to BGN 2.57 for a pack of 125 grammes.
