A festive mood reigns in the Turkish capital Ankara on the occasion of the upcoming 100th anniversary of the founding of the Republic of Turkiye. This country’s national holiday will be celebrated with many festive events across the country on Sunday.

Turkish flags and posters with congratulations on the anniversary, as well as posters with the image of the founder of the Republic, Mustafa Kemal Ataturk, were hung in many places in the capital Ankara in the last few weeks.

The whole of Kizilay Square is decorated with flags and posters. Short films about the founding of the Republic are being shown on monitors on the square and on the high buildings in the area, as well as congratulations, including from President Recep Tayyip Erdogan. Giant national flags are hung on the tall buildings. The atmosphere is particularly festive in the evening hours.

Free concerts have been organized in Ankara with the participation of the famous Turkish performers, such as Gunesh, Zeynep Bastik, Bege, Hadise, Candan Ercetin and Murda.

Schools and kindergartens have also organized celebrations to mark the occasion this week. All children participating in the events were dressed in red and white (the colours of the Turkish flag).

Many shops sell clothes for children and adults in red and white, as well as with festive images on the occasion of the anniversary.

Clothing shops, including leading brands, are offering various discounts on goods to mark the occasion.
