Friday morning saw unusual weather around seaside Constanta in Romania. CTV cameras recorded the thick fog which spread across the beaches of several resorts, DiGi24 TV reported.

Visibility was so bad that objects could hardly be discernible several metres away at places and the police warned that it was below 200m on the Constanta-Bucharest motorway. Experts explained the phenomenon with the recent sharp cooling of the seawater and the fog resulting from its encounter with the extremely hot ambient air.

Code Orange for high temperatures on Friday has been declared for Bucharest, Crisana, Banat and the southern half of Oltenia and Muntenia. Highs are expected to reach 41 C in the shade.

The heat also called for exceptional measures for the animals at Bucharest Zoo. They are given teas, frozen fruit and meat, and the staff constantly refill tubs of waters. Sprinklers have been installed for the birds and some zones Bucharest Zoo Director Ancuta Elena Oprea told Agerpres.

The heatwave also reflected on road traffic, banning motor vehicles over 7.5 tonnes from highways and high-speed roads across the country until 8:00 pm on Friday
