We will take part in the submission of proposals for constitutional amendments, said Mustafa Karadayi, chairman of the Movement for Rights and Freedom (MRF), at a briefing at the Ramada Hotel in Sofia on Friday. He stressed that the MRF has always been an advocate of serious reforms in the judiciary, which cannot happen without changes in the basic law.

"What I can categorically state at the moment is that we have the assurance that the GERB-UDF, Continue the Change - Democratic Bulgaria (CC-DB) and the MRF will sign the proposals to be submitted to the National Assembly's registry for amendments to the Constitution," Karadayi elaborated, adding that the amendments depend on other parliamentary groups that would possibly support them.

Regarding the former MP and environmentalist Alexander Dunchev's words that a change on the provision of firewood had been pushed through "in the dark" as a scheme for corruption and uncontrolled logging, Karadayi said that there were some texts adopted "in haste" by "lobbyists, who do not take into account the real life of the people, but make their own issues to push them as texts in laws". In the draft programme of Parliament for this week, a bill on amendments to the Forestry Act is included for second reading.

"Starting today [Friday], we are launching the nomination procedures for MRF candidates for the local elections", Karadayi also said. He pointed out that the MRF has made an analysis of the current political situation on the ground. "We have adopted criteria for nominating candidates for mayors of town halls, districts, municipalities and for municipal councilors", Karadayi added. In his words, a discussion will begin on whom the MRF should support for the seats where it will not nominate candidates.
