A programme for joint actions in tourism is expected to be signed between Bulgaria and Greece in the second half of 2023, it emerged after Thursday's working meeting of Tourism Minister Ilin Dimitrov with Olympia Anastasopoulou, Secretary General for Tourism Policy and Development at the Hellenic Ministry of Tourism.

"Our cooperation in the field of tourism is excellent. Greece is Bulgaria's fourth largest trading partner in the EU after Germany, Romania and Italy. For Greece, Bulgaria is the second largest EU trading partner after Italy," Dimitrov stressed at the meeting. 

A total of 806,000 Greek tourists visited Bulgaria in 2022, making the country the second largest inbound market after Romania, with a growth of 211 %. Bulgaria and Greece are also among the most successful countries in terms of sector recovery. A growth of 27 % was registered last winter, and a growth of 5-7 % is expected for the summer of 2023 compared to 2019, Dimitrov said.

Anastasopoulou is in Sofia for the 68th Session of the UN World Tourism Organisation's Commission for Europe, which is hosted by Bulgaria.
