The six members of the Prosecutors Chamber of the Supreme Judicial Council (SJC) who have moved for the replacement of Prosecutor General Ivan Geshev, made a declaration, calling on Geshev to go on leave until all the circumstances and facts regarding the requests for his early dismissal are clarified. The magistrates’ declaration reads that, on behalf of the Prosecution Magistracy, Geshev officially announced that he is taking a leave of absence, then expressed opinions, made statements and analyzed processes and events, trying to achieve goals incompatible with the positions he holds.

Furthermore, the six members of SJC claim that Geshev exerted pressure on them by suggesting they have political affiliations and questioned their personal, professional qualities and reputation.

“We call on Prosecutor General Ivan Geshev to go on leave until all the circumstances and facts of the case are clarified, as this is the only way that prosecutors are guaranteed possibility to perform their duties in an objective manner, without any risk of pressure”, the declaration also reads.

The document was addressed to a wide range of Bulgarian state institutions, as well as to the Representation of the European Commission, the embassies of EU member states in Sofia, the US Embassy in Sofia, the British Embassy in Sofia, the Consultative Council of European Prosecutors, the International Association of Prosecutors, the European Networks of Councils for the Judiciary, the Group of States against Corruption (GRECO) Commission, and the European Public Prosecutor's Office.
