site.bta136 Educators Nominated in 26th Edition of Teacher of the Year Ceremony
The final stage of the 26th edition of the Teacher of the Year ceremony here on Friday saw 136 teachers and principals nominated in ten categories:
- preschool education and training,
- primary education,
- humanities education,
- science and mathematics education,
- arts and sports,
- vocational education,
- principals and vice-principals,
- educational work, extracurricular and after-school activities, school psychologists and pedagogical advisers,
- young teachers,
- mentors.
Head of the Union of Bulgarian Teachers with the Confederation of Independent Trade Unions in Bulgaria (CITUB) Yanka Takeva, who attended the ceremony, shared that CITUB is waiting to see when a regular government will be able to pass the 2023 State Budget, as "we secured BGN 543 million for the increase of teachers' salaries from January 1, 2023".
She clarified that out of the BGN 543 million, BGN 346 million is for teachers' salaries, BGN 59 million is for non-teaching staff salaries, BGN 38 million is for social security and BGN 12 million is for the Social, Welfare and Cultural Services Fund.
Among the guests of the ceremony were caretaker Deputy Minister of Education and Science Maria Gaydarova, Sofia Mayor Yordanka Fandakova, Head of the Regional Education Department in Sofia-city Vanya Kastreva, former Minister of Education and Science Todor Tanev.
