The countries on NATO's eastern flank, including Bulgaria, Friday called for stronger US military presence in the region, AFP reported. According to the news agency, the countries from the Bucharest Nine (Bulgaria, Czechia, Estonia, Hungary, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, Romania, and Slovakia) called for this mere months before Lithuania hosting the NATO Summit in July.

AFP quotes Romanian Minister of Foreign Affairs Bogdan Aurescu as saying after a meeting with his counterparts in Lodz, Poland, that they should do everything possible to increase the US presence in the region, on the Alliance's eastern flank, in terms of soldiers and military equipment.

The eastern flank countries also promised additional support for Ukraine.

It transpires from Aurescu's words that the B9 countries support Ukraine's accession to NATO.
