Trade Union of Prison Workers
Prepares for Protest,
Demands Labour Minister's Resignation

Sofia, September 30 (BTA) - The trade union of prison workers
Tuesday joined the biggest police trade union in the country by
objecting to the intentions of the Labour and Social Policy
Minister to limit the social rights of the employees in the
security sector. "We firmly disapprove of and do not accept a
proposal which is not supported with the necessary analyses,
arguments and a public discussion on the topic," the trade union
said in a position made public here.

"We are forced to demand the Labour and Social Policy Minister's
resignation and to begin preparing for protest actions, just a
month after our last protest on another matter," the position
read further. According to the trade union, such actions lead
only to confrontation and conflict between strata, groups and
professions and contrast sharply with the need of national
agreement in the present difficult period for Bulgaria.

The workers in Bulgarian prisons describe as completely
unacceptable and inadmissible every attempt at starting a
"theatrical reform in the lack of a clearly stated and widely
discussed specific strategy for the whole sector's development".
