Voting machines have no internet connection, making outside interference with the results impossible, Central Election Commission (CEC) Spokesperson Stoyanka Balova said in a Bulgarian National Television interview on Saturday.
Balova explained that each machine-issued ballot receipt would display a hash code to be generated next week and made public. Voters should remember the first and last four digits of the 30-digit code so they can check it, allowing them to verify that the machines are running certified software, she said.
Earlier this week, CEC representatives demonstrated how to vote using a machine at metro stations in Sofia. Some people still do not know how to do this, and there have been requests for further demonstrations, Balova said.
