The organisation of the elections is proceeding according to plan and in line with the deadlines set out in the official election timetable, Central Election Commission (CEC) spokesperson Stoyanka Balova-Tsvetkova said on Tuesday at a briefing on preparations for the presidential elections scheduled for October 25.

The deadline for registering nomination committees to participate in the elections expired on Monday. A total of eight political parties and 24 nomination committees have been registered. Two parties had their registrations cancelled, while three nomination committees were denied registration due to identified discrepancies, the CEC spokesperson said.

Registered parties and nomination committees have until September 22 to register their candidates. So far, four have been registered, Tsvetkova added.
