site.btaPresidential Candidate Tomov Vows to Work with Both Ruling Party and Opposition

Bulgarian Social Democracy - EuroLeft leader Alexander Tomov and Sergey Indzhov, who will run for president and vice president in the upcoming elections, presented their campaign platform here on Saturday. Tomov said they would work with both the ruling party and the opposition if elected. 

He described his programme for Bulgaria as very ambitious, with the goal of boosting the economy through a system of investments and accelerating growth. According to him, 20 years after joining the EU, Bulgaria ranks last in Europe across all indicators.

“We support Progressive Bulgaria in its fight against corruption, but we do not accept its approach to inflation and investment,” Tomov added. He stated that a change in the tax system and a shift to a progressive tax are needed because there are currently 2 million people living in extreme poverty, including 380,000 children.

Tomov introduced his vice-presidential candidate, Indzhov, whom he described as the embodiment of modernity in their platform and an IT specialist.

“I am one of the new faces in politics,” Indzhov said, noting that politics needs to incorporate new ideas drawn from real life and the business world. “Innovation is the focus we will rely on,” he added, noting that the presidency will build upon - rather than dismantle - what has been accomplished before them. In his words, the head of State must be strong.

Tomov said that on September 22, they will present a National Expert Council in support of their programme, featuring leading professors, businesspeople, teachers, and artists. He called on the presidential candidates not to shy away from debates and not to hide.
