site.btaJapanese Trumpeter Takuya Kuroda to Perform First Sofia Concert

Japanese trumpeter, composer and producer Takuya Kuroda will perform his first concert in Sofia at the invitation of the A to JazZ Festival. The event is scheduled for November 17 at Toplocentrala, the organizers announced.

Born in Ashiya in 1980 and established on the New York music scene, Kuroda has successfully blurred the boundaries between jazz, funk, post-bop, hip-hop and neo-soul, becoming one of the most influential figures of his generation.

In Sofia, Kuroda will perform music from his latest, eighth studio album, Everyday (2025) – a project in which he takes his pursuit of the perfect balance between modern production and organic live performance to a new level. Groove lies at the heart of the album.

“His distinctive, clean trumpet tone, combined with the use of Rhodes piano and synthesizers, creates a sonic world where the influences of Herbie Hancock, Robert Glasper and Thundercat converge, always filtered through Kuroda’s own artistic perspective,” the organizers of the event said.

Kuroda has been building his career in the United States for more than two decades. After studying at The New School in New York, he performed with groups including DJ Premier’s Badder Band and Akoya Afrobeat, and recorded for prestigious labels such as Blue Note and Concord. His name has become closely associated with the artists shaping the contemporary Black music scene.
