Bulgaria’s first permanent exhibition dedicated to seagrasses opened at St. Anastasia Island near Burgas on Monday, the organizers said.
Developed under the international Blue Connect project, the exhibition presents scientific information in an accessible form for visitors of all ages. It centres on ocean literacy – understanding the sea not merely as a place for recreation, but as a living, interconnected system essential to human well-being.
Using photographs, illustrations and facts, the exhibition shows how seagrass meadows provide habitats and feeding grounds for marine organisms, help protect the seabed and coastline, and sustain fish populations. It also explains how seagrasses differ from algae, presents species found in the Black Sea, and shows how protecting underwater meadows strengthens marine ecosystems and supports adaptation to climate change.
The exhibition was created in partnership by the Bulgarian Biodiversity Foundation, the Burgas Regional Tourism Association and Burgas Municipality. It brings together science, nature conservation, tourism and education to shed light on the little-known world beneath the surface of the Black Sea, the organizers said.
