Daniela Popova, administrative head of the Sofia Appellate Prosecution Office, has been nominated for election to the Supreme Judicial Council (SJC) from the prosecutors' quota, the Council's press centre said on Friday.

She was nominated by magistrates from the Supreme Cassation Prosecution Office and the Sofia appellate, district and regional prosecution offices. They cited their longstanding impressions of the high personal, moral and professional qualities Popova has demonstrated in her work as a magistrate.

The nomination highlights Popova's professional and leadership capacity, her ability to plan strategically and make appropriate, timely and lawful decisions in situations involving a high degree of public responsibility, as well as what the nominators describe as her conscientiousness, consistency, initiative and creativity in fostering a motivating and comfortable working environment.

The nominators also point to her sense of justice, impartiality, integrity, adherence to principle and ability to work as part of a team. They express confidence that, as an experienced and respected legal professional with managerial experience and in-depth knowledge of the judicial system, Popova has the qualities necessary to contribute to the work of the SJC and to upholding the independence and standing of the judiciary.
