No damage has been reported to critical infrastructure following the entry of a drone into Bulgarian airspace, the Dobrich Regional Administration told the Bulgarian News Agency (BTA) on Saturday.

Regional Governor Ruslan Tomov is at the scene of the incident, together with Chief of Defence Admiral Emil Eftimov and Defence Ministry experts.

According to the Regional Administration, the incident was reported by Border Police officers, who heard noise and a loud bang. The drone came down in a sunflower field and exploded.

No damage was caused to the border crossing, the nearby compressor station or any other critical infrastructure. No fires were reported, and there are no reports of injuries.

Military specialists are inspecting the site and examining the wreckage of the aircraft. It is not yet possible to determine what type of drone was involved. Further information is expected once the technical examination has been completed.

General Toshevo Mayor Valentin Dimitrov said the drone had crashed on Bulgarian territory, on the side of the gas compressor station.

The situation in the area is calm, while the authorities continue to investigate the incident in order to establish the circumstances.

Operations at the Kardam border crossing on the Bulgarian-Romanian border have not been disrupted.

Prime Minister Rumen Radev said at a briefing following a meeting of the Security Council under the Council of Ministers that at 8:10 a.m. on Saturday morning, a drone entered Bulgarian airspace from the north, and exploded approximately 100 metres inside Bulgarian territory.

Defence Minister Dimitar Stoyanov said at the briefing that Bulgaria had strengthened the protection of its airspace after several incidents with drones entering Romanian territory.
